Bridging Course for Grid-Connected PV with Battery Storage Design & Install
RPL-based Online Course
The GSES Grid-Connected PV with Battery Storage Design & Install bridging course is designed for electricians who have previously designed and installed grid-connected battery systems under the Clean Energy Council’s Grid-connect and Stand-alone power accreditations. From April 1 2019, these accreditations are no longer sufficient: electricians designing and installing grid-connected battery systems need the Clean Energy Council battery storage endorsement, which requires competency in UEERE5001 and UEERE4001. This course applies Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) based on the student’s previous training and experience in Grid-Connected PV and Stand-Alone Power Systems, allowing eligible students to avoid the greater time and cost expenditure of a full Grid-Connected PV with Battery Storage course.

The Grid-Connected PV with Battery Storage bridging course consists of three components:
- RPL based on prior completed units of competency: UEENEEK123A, UEENEEK125A, UEENEEK128A, UEENEEK134A, UEENEEK135A, UEENEEK139A and UEENEEK148A (or equivalents).
- RPL based on evidence submitted by the student of their previous designs, installations and maintenance of grid-connected battery systems. Please view the required evidence for UEERE5001 and UEERE4001.
- Short online quizzes to assess knowledge not covered by the previous two components. There are around 40 questions in total.
To enrol in this bridging course, you must be a licensed electrician that is accredited by the Clean Energy Council as a designer and installer for both Grid-Connect PV Systems and Stand-Alone Power Systems, and be able to provide the evidence specified in point 2 above. GSES is a Nationally Recognised Registered Training Organisation (RTO Code 91461), and students who successfully complete all components of the course will receive a Statement of Attainment or Certificate of Completion for the units of competency UEERE5001 and UEERE4001, depending on whether they have previously attained the Nationally Recognised Training pre-requisite units. This meets the training component of the Clean Energy Council’s requirements for Grid-connect Battery Storage Provisional Endorsement. Successful completion of the units UEERE4001 and UEERE5001 is not classified as an additional accreditation by the Clean Energy Council: it will be an endorsement applied to the applicant’s existing Accreditation (i.e. Design and Installation of Grid-Connected PV systems Accreditation).

This course is designed for electricians who are accredited to design and install grid-connected photovoltaic systems AND stand-alone power systems, and have previously been using these accreditations to design and install grid-connected battery systems. This RPL-based online-only course allows eligible students to apply for the Clean Energy Council battery storage endorsement by using their previous training and experience to meet the majority of the assessable requirements.
This bridging course consists of three components:
RPL based on prior completed units of competency: UEENEEK123A, UEENEEK125A, UEENEEK128A, UEENEEK134A, UEENEEK135A, UEENEEK139A and UEENEEK148A (or equivalents).
RPL based on evidence submitted by the student of their previous designs, installations and maintenance of grid-connected battery systems. Please view the required evidence for UEERE5001 and UEERE4001.
Short online quizzes to assess knowledge not covered by the previous two components. There are around 40 questions in total.
Course access is valid for 6 months.
Prerequisites: Unrestricted electrical licence issued by an Australian state or territory, Clean Energy Council Design and Install accreditations for both Grid-Connect PV and Stand-Alone Power Systems, and demonstrable experience working with grid-connected battery systems (see the Design and Install forms for full evidence requirements).
Outcome of successful completion: Statement of Attainment or Certificate of Completion for the following Units of Competency and eligible to apply for CEC battery storage endorsement (refer to the CEC for any additional requirements).

UEERE4001: Install, maintain and fault find battery storage systems for grid-connected photovoltaic systems
Required materials: As current practitioners, students are expected to have current copies of the following Australian Standards:
AS/NZS 5033 – Photovoltaic arrays
AS/NZS 4777.1 – Grid connection of energy systems via inverters
AS/NZS 3000 – Wiring rules
AS/NZS 3008.1.1 – Selection of cables Part 1.1
AS/NZS 4509.1 – Stand Alone Power Systems – Safety and installation
AS/NZS 4509.2 – Stand Alone Power Systems – System Design
Students will also require the following:
Computer with reliable Internet connection
Email account, checked regularly
Although not compulsory, the Grid-Connected PV Systems with Battery Storage is recommended reading for this course. The cost of the book is not included in the course price, but can be purchased in addition.
