Directors of GSES have been involved with RE training development since the early 1990’s. This expertise has been used to develop and conduct training programs in countries such as Australia, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Ghana.
Projects have included: - Developed a business training course based on the Solar Entrepeneurs Handbook which was conducted in Ghana in February 2009.
- Conducted training in Solomon Islands as part of the World Bank/GEF Sustainable Energy Finance Program in February 2009. This training will soon also be conducted in Papua New Guinea and Fiji.
- Stand alone power system training as part of the Philippines Rural Power Project, with 3 courses to be conducted.
- Development of grid connected PV training course with Malaysian Energy Centre, and conducting 'train the trainers' courses in March 2006. This was followed by a further solar technician training course in February-March 2008.
- Developed a course for Solar Home System technicians in Sri Lanka. The first course was undertaken in October 1999 and a second course was run in February 2000 supported by the ASTAE unit under the QuaP-PV programme. The second course was operated as a “train the trainer” course and a trainers guide was developed.
- Developed a sales course for solar entrepreneurs. This was conducted in Sri Lanka in October 1999.
- Conducted three Advanced Solar Training Courses in Sri Lanka. These were co-ordinated by the Sri Lankan Industry Association with funding support from the current GEF/World Bank Energy Services Delivery program (2001-2002)
- Conducting training courses for 22 solar technicians in Ghana, West Africa in 2003. Contract with Deng Solar and funded by the Solar Development Fund. This has developed further training projects including technician training courses in 2005 and solar pumping courses in 2007. GSES has also recently established an office in Ghana.
